Set Up Email in Apple Mail (macOS)
Learn about Set Up Email in Apple Mail (macOS) in WaymakerOS.
Set up Mail, Calendar, and Contacts on your Mac in one step using the WaymakerOS configuration profile.
What you'll set up
A single profile download installs three accounts at once:
- Mail (IMAP + SMTP)
- Calendar (CalDAV)
- Contacts (CardDAV)
You don't need to enter any server names, ports, or passwords. The profile carries all of that.
Quick Setup with profile download (recommended)
1. Generate a setup code in Commander
Open Commander on the Mac you want to set up.
- Open Commander at commander.waymakerone.com
- Click Email in the sidebar
- Click the Settings gear in the top right of the email view
- Switch to the Setup tab
- In the Quick Setup (Apple Devices) card, click Generate Setup Code
The card now shows a QR code (for iPhone) and a Download profile for this Mac button. Each click of Generate Setup Code creates two fresh single-use codes — one for the QR, one for the download — so you can install on your iPhone and your Mac from the same generation.

2. Download the profile
Click Download profile for this Mac. The file waymaker-os-email.mobileconfig lands in your Downloads folder. The download link is single-use and expires in 10 minutes.
3. Install the profile
- Open System Settings → General → VPN & Device Management
- Under Downloaded Profile, double-click Waymaker OS Email
- Click Install, then Install again to confirm
- Enter your Mac password
- An "Unsigned Profile" warning appears — this is normal. Continue with Install

4. Verify
Open Mail, Calendar, and Contacts. You'll see a new Waymaker OS account in each, syncing your inbox, events, and address book. Initial sync takes a minute or two.
Setting up iPhone and Mac from the same generation
A single click of Generate Setup Code creates one QR code and one download — both single-use, both valid for 10 minutes. To set up both devices in one go:
- Click Generate Setup Code in Commander on your Mac
- Scan the QR code with your iPhone Camera (see Set Up Email on iPhone & iPad)
- Click Download profile for this Mac to install on your Mac
If a code expires, click Generate new code for fresh ones.
Manual IMAP setup (advanced)
If you can't use the profile method — for example, you only want to add mail without calendar or contacts, or your Mac is managed and blocks profile installs — you can configure Apple Mail by hand. The full server settings are in Manual Settings Reference.
Steps
- Open Mail
- Go to Mail → Add Account
- Select Other Mail Account
- Click Continue
- Enter your name, full email address, and email token (not your Waymaker password)
- Click Sign In
- When automatic configuration fails, additional fields appear
- Select IMAP as the Account Type
- Enter the IMAP and SMTP server settings from the Manual Settings Reference
- Click Sign In, then Done
For calendar-only or contacts-only setup, see Sync Calendar to Devices or Sync Contacts to Devices.
Troubleshooting
"Profile cannot be installed"
The download link expired. Go back to Commander and click Generate new code, then download again. Links last 10 minutes.
Mail account installed but no messages appear
Initial sync takes a minute or two. Click Get Mail to refresh. If no mail arrives after five minutes:
- Go to System Settings → General → VPN & Device Management
- Confirm the Waymaker OS Email profile is listed
- If not, generate a new code and reinstall
Sent emails not appearing in Sent folder
Apple Mail may save sent items locally instead of on the server:
- Open Mail → Settings → Accounts
- Select your Waymaker account
- Click Mailbox Behaviors
- Set Sent Mailbox to the Sent folder on the server (not "On My Mac")
"Unable to verify account name or password"
If you set up manually rather than via profile, make sure you used your email token, not your Waymaker password. Find your token under Setup → Your Credentials in the email Settings panel.
Removing the profile
To uninstall everything in one step:
- Open System Settings → General → VPN & Device Management
- Select the Waymaker OS Email profile
- Click the minus button to remove
This removes Mail, Calendar, and Contacts together.
Tips
Set as default account
To send from your Waymaker email by default:
- Open Mail → Settings → Composing
- Set Send new messages from to your Waymaker account
