Assigning People to Roles
Learn about Assigning People to Roles in WaymakerOS.
Connect team members to roles so everyone knows who fills each position in your organisation.
Assigning a person
- Open the People module (Cmd+2)
- Click Roles and find the role
- Click the role to open it
- Click Assign Person
- Search for and select a team member
- Click Assign
The person's avatar now appears on the role in the org chart. They can see their role details in their personal My Role view.
Multiple people in one role
Some roles may be filled by multiple people (e.g., you might have three "Sales Representative" roles). Create a separate role instance for each person, or create one role and assign multiple people if the role is shared.
Unassigning a person
- Open the role
- Click the assigned person
- Click Remove Assignment
The role remains in the org chart but shows as unassigned. This is useful for hiring — you can design your org chart with open positions before filling them.
Viewing assignments
From the org chart
The org chart shows each role with its assigned person's name and avatar. Unassigned roles appear with a placeholder icon.
From My Role
Every team member can see their own role by clicking My Role in their personal menu. This shows:
- Their role name and purpose
- Who they report to
- Who reports to them
- Goals connected to their role
Tips
- Design first, assign second — build out your full org chart structure before assigning people. This helps you see the complete picture.
- One person, one primary role — while people may contribute to multiple areas, each person should have one primary role for clarity of accountability.
- Use unassigned roles for hiring — open roles in the org chart serve as a visual hiring plan.
