Key ResultsMetrics
Key results are the measurable outcomes that define whether an objective is achieved. Every objective should have 2–5 key results that quantify success.
Adding key results
- Open a goal (objective)
- Click Add Key Result
- Fill in:
- Title — what you're measuring
- Target — the number you're aiming for
- Unit — how you measure it
- Starting value — where you are today (optional, defaults to 0)
- Click Save
Choosing the right unit
| Unit | Use for | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Number | Counts and quantities | "Sign 50 new customers" |
| Currency | Revenue and financial targets | "Reach $100K MRR" |
| Percentage | Rates and ratios | "Achieve 95% uptime" |
| Boolean | Yes/no milestones | "Launch the mobile app" |
Writing effective key results
Key results should be:
- Specific — no ambiguity about what's being measured
- Measurable — a number that can be tracked objectively
- Achievable — challenging but realistic within the period
- Relevant — directly contributes to the parent objective
Good key results
- "Grow monthly recurring revenue from $50K to $100K"
- "Reduce average support response time from 4 hours to 1 hour"
- "Publish 30 blog posts targeting high-intent keywords"
- "Achieve a Net Promoter Score of 50+"
Key results to avoid
- "Improve customer satisfaction" — not measurable (add a number)
- "Do marketing" — not specific (what marketing? what outcome?)
- "Achieve 10,000% growth" — not achievable in one quarter
Updating key results
As work progresses, update the current value of each key result:
- Open the goal
- Click the key result
- Update the Current value
- Optionally add a note explaining the update
The goal's overall progress recalculates automatically based on all key result values.
How progress is calculated
Each key result's progress = (current value - starting value) / (target - starting value) × 100
The objective's overall progress is the average of all its key results.
Example: Three key results at 100%, 50%, and 75% give an objective progress of 75%.
