What is Signal?
Signal is Waymaker's built-in website analytics. It tells you who visits your website, where they came from, what they clicked, and whether they converted — without the complexity of Google Analytics.
Overview
Signal is Waymaker's built-in website analytics. It tells you who visits your website, where they came from, what they clicked, and whether they converted — without the complexity of Google Analytics.
One script tag. No cookie banners. No certification course required.
What Signal Auto-Tracks
Install the script and these events are tracked automatically — zero configuration:
| Event | What It Captures |
|---|---|
| Pageviews | Every page visited, including single-page app navigation |
| Outbound Clicks | Links to other websites |
| File Downloads | PDF, ZIP, CSV, XLSX, and other file types |
| Form Submissions | Form name and action (never field values) |
| Scroll Depth | How far visitors scroll (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) |
| Engagement Time | Active time on page (pauses when tab is in background) |
Every event also captures: page URL, page title, referrer, viewport size, language, and timezone.
What Makes Signal Different
vs Google Analytics
GA4 averages 7/10 difficulty for basic business questions. Signal answers them on one page. No custom events to configure, no Tag Manager, no data streams. Install it and go.
vs Plausible / Fathom
Plausible and Fathom are great — but they're standalone dashboards disconnected from your business. Signal lives inside your workspace, connected to your tasks, contacts, goals, and documents.
vs PostHog
PostHog is powerful but heavy (57KB script, session replay, feature flags). Signal is 1.8KB, focused on answering business questions, and lets AI handle the complexity.
The AI Advantage
Signal is designed for AI-assisted setup. When building a website with Claude Code or Cursor, you can say:
"What events should I track on this page?"
The AI analyzes your HTML, identifies buttons, forms, and key content areas, then writes the signal() tracking calls for you. No analytics expertise required.
Privacy
- No cookies — Signal doesn't use cookies or localStorage for tracking
- No consent banner — GDPR and CCPA compliant by design
- No fingerprinting — Visitors are counted using anonymous daily hashes
- Your data — Analytics data lives in your Waymaker workspace, not sold to ad networks
Script Size
1.8KB gzipped — comparable to Fathom, smaller than Plausible, 30x smaller than PostHog.
