Introduction to Chats
Learn about Introduction to Chats in WaymakerOS.
Chats is Commander's built-in AI workspace. Have conversations with specialised AI agents, generate content, analyse data, and save results directly to your projects — all without leaving Commander.
What can you do with Chats?
- Ask questions — get strategic advice, analyse data, brainstorm ideas
- Generate content — documents, spreadsheets, presentations, code
- Execute actions — create tasks, update documents, and manage resources through conversation
- Research — competitive intelligence, market trends, and planning
- Coach — leadership development and team dynamics guidance
Creating a chat
- Open Chats from the sidebar or press the keyboard shortcut
- Click New Chat
- Choose an AI agent (or leave on Coordinator)
- Start typing your message
Choosing an AI agent
Chats includes five specialised agents. Select one from the pills at the top of the input area:
| Agent | Best for |
|---|---|
| Coordinator | General questions, complex decisions, multi-step tasks. Routes to specialists as needed. |
| Data | Analytics, metrics, reports, data visualisation |
| Research | Market intelligence, competitive analysis, trends |
| Planner | Project planning, roadmaps, sprint planning, timelines |
| Coach | Leadership development, team dynamics, people management |
Tip: Start with the Coordinator if you're unsure which agent to use. It acts as a chief of staff and routes to specialists when needed.
The chat interface
Message area
The main area shows your conversation. Messages from you appear on the right, AI responses on the left. The AI streams responses in real time so you can see the answer forming.
Input bar
Type your message in the input bar at the bottom. The input expands as you type. You can:
- Paste images directly into the input for visual analysis
- Attach files for the AI to reference
- @ mention resources — type
@to reference tasks, documents, sheets, and other Commander resources in your message - Add a prompt from the Prompt Library for guided responses
Artifacts
When the AI generates structured content — a document, spreadsheet, code block, or diagram — it appears as an artifact. Click the artifact to open the preview panel, where you can:
- Preview the content in native format
- Copy to clipboard
- Save directly to a Commander project as a new document, sheet, or other tool
Prompt Library
Open the Prompt Library from the sidebar to browse reusable prompts:
- Waymaker Prompts — built-in prompts based on business frameworks
- Partner Exclusive — tier-gated prompts for specific use cases
- My Custom Prompts — your own saved prompts
Click the + button on any prompt to add it as context for your next message. The AI will use the prompt to guide its response.
Chat management
Sharing
Chats can be private, shared with collaborators, or published:
- Private — only you can see the chat
- Shared — invite specific collaborators
- Published — anyone in your organisation can view
Access sharing controls from the chat settings (gear icon) or the Share button.
Search and filter
From the chat list, use:
- Search to find chats by title or description
- Status filter — All, Private, Published, Archived
- Owner filter — All, My chats, Shared with me
- Sort — Last updated, Date created, Title
- View mode — switch between grid (cards) and list (table) views
Bulk actions
Select multiple chats using the checkboxes, then use the bulk toolbar to delete or manage them.
Action routing
Chats can execute actions directly in Commander. When your message includes an action verb ("create", "update", "delete") combined with a resource type ("task", "document", "sheet"), the AI routes the request to the appropriate tool.
For example:
- "Create a task called 'Review Q2 report' on the Marketing board"
- "Update the project description for Sprint 14"
The AI confirms the action before executing it.
